The Brief

  • Josh Inglis is set to rejoin the squad after recovering from a fractured finger.
  • Cameron Green's potential return adds complexity to Australia's batting plans.
  • Ingl'ts return may impact the team's wicketkeeping and batting lineup.

Australia's Josh Inglis is expected to join the squad ahead of the second Test against South Africa in Gqeberha following a medical assessment that ruled out surgery for his fractured finger.

Inglis' potential return complicates the team's selection process, as Cameron Green also seeks to recover from an abdominal strain that kept him out of the first Test.

Inglis sustained the finger injury while keeping wickets during the opening ODI in Durban, which forced Australia to adjust their squad for the first Test.

Australia head coach Andrew McDonald explained that Inglis' absence required replacing two roles rather than simply adding another batter, with Sam Harper taking the wicketkeeping backup role and Nic Maddinson recalled to the Test setup.

Green's fitness remains uncertain, and his potential return could further challenge the selectors as they balance batting and wicketkeeping needs for the second Test.

Matt Renshaw's performance in the first Test, where he scored 190, will also be considered as the team evaluates its options for the remainder of the series.
