Life convict granted parole for wedding

Mainpal Dhilla, a man serving a life sentence in India, was granted parole to marry his Cambodian partner, Meta Chan. The wedding took place near Jhajjar jail, where Dhilla is currently incarcerated.

Dhilla and Meta Chan are believed to have met in 2018 when he fled to Cambodia after failing to return from parole. They have three children and lived together in Siem Reap until Dhilla was re-arrested in 2025.

The wedding, held at Dulina Farm on the Jhajjar-Gurugram Road, was secured with at least 100 police personnel. Security measures included monitoring guest movements and restricting media access to the venue.

Dhilla, a resident of Badli village, is serving a life sentence for murder, attempt to murder, illegal firearms use, and criminal conspiracy. He was sentenced in April 2013 and has been in prison since his 2025 re-arrest.

According to police records, Dhilla was granted six weeks parole from Hisar Central Jail in 2018. He failed to return, fled to Cambodia using a fake identity, and was later traced there. An Interpol Red Notice was issued in 2024, leading to his arrest in Cambodia in 2025.

Dhilla was formally arrested in India in September 2025 and has since been serving the remainder of his sentence. Officials confirmed he is not eligible for remission at this time. His parole was granted through legal process and subject to strict conditions due to his 2018 escape.
