India wins silver in mixed 4x400m relay at Asian Games

India's mixed 4x400m relay team secured a silver medal at the 2026 Asian Games in Nagoya, finishing second in the final. The team, consisting of Machettira Poovamma Raju, Vishal Thennarasu, Vithya Ramraj, and Thekkinalil Manu, completed the race in 3:14.46.

Bahrain claimed gold with a Games record time of 3:12.87, while Vietnam finished in 3:14.54, narrowly missing out on silver. Japan placed fourth with a time of 3:15.52.

The Indian team's 0.08-second lead over Vietnam was crucial in securing the silver medal, as they maintained composure during the tightly contested final. This result continues India's strong showing in the mixed 4x400m relay at the Asian Games.

India had previously won gold in the event at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta and silver at the 2023 Games in Hangzhou. This silver in Nagoya marks their third consecutive medal in the mixed 4x400m relay at the Asian Games.

Vishal Thennarasu, a key member of the team, had previously won gold in the mixed 4x400m relay and silver in the men’s 4x400m relay at the 2025 Asian Athletics Championships. Vithya Ramraj, another team member, competed at the Paris 2024 Olympics and won silver in the mixed 4x400m relay at the 2022 Asian Games.

The consistent performance of India's mixed 4x400m relay team on the continental stage highlights their growing strength in the event, with the silver medal in Nagoya adding to their previous successes.
