Mainpal Dhilla, a jailed gangster, was released on 12-hour custody parole to marry his Cambodian partner, Meta Chan, in Jhajjar, Haryana, on Thursday.

Dhilla was brought to a farmhouse in the district from the prison nearby under tight security to solemnise the marriage, according to officials.

The ceremony took place after he was released from prison at 8 am and was taken back to the prison following the event.

Dhilla met Chan in Cambodia after fleeing India in August 2018 using a fake identity. Three of her children accompanied Chan to the ceremony.

Dhilla, a notorious criminal wanted by the Haryana Police, was arrested in September 2025 after being extradited from Cambodia following a coordinated operation by the CBI and state police.

He had previously served a life term in a Hisar jail for multiple crimes, including murder, and had absconded during a parole period in 2018.
