Jailed Gangster Mainpal Arrested After Extradition from Cambodia

Mainpal, a convicted criminal, was on a 12-hour custody-parole and was returned to prison after marrying his Cambodian partner.

Mainpal met his partner when he fled to Cambodia while jumping parole in 2018. The couple then began living together and had children, three of whom traveled with him during the recent visit.

In September 2025, Mainpal, also known as Dhilla, was arrested after being extradited from Cambodia. The operation involved the CBI, state police, and Union ministries of home and external affairs.

Mainpal had previously served a life sentence in a Hisar jail for multiple crimes, including murder. He was released on parole in 2018 but fled the country using a fake identity.

Officials stated that Mainpal was apprehended after a Red Notice was issued through Interpol on November 6, 2024, and he was located in Cambodia. He had set up a base in Siem Reap and was running a nightclub.

Cambodian authorities agreed to hand over Mainpal to Indian authorities, and he was subsequently formally arrested after reaching Delhi.
