Jailed Gangster Gets 12-Hour Parole to Marry Cambodian Partner

Mainpal Dhilla, a 50-year-old gangster serving life sentences for three murder cases, married his Cambodian partner, Meta Chan, on Thursday after being granted 12-hour custody parole by the high court.

Dhilla, from Badli village in Jhajjar district, was brought to Dulina Farm on the Jhajjar-Gurugram road for the ceremony, which followed Hindu rites. Their children were present during the event.

A police officer stated that Dhilla was under tight security during the marriage. He is scheduled to return to Hisar Central Jail by 8 pm, ending his 12-hour parole period. The bride and her family had already arrived in Jhajjar.

Dhilla met Chan in Cambodia after fleeing there in 2019 following a parole jump. He had been granted six weeks' parole in 2018 but absconded and obtained a passport through forged documents to escape to Siem Reap.

The couple settled in Cambodia and had children, three of whom accompanied their mother to Jhajjar for the wedding. Dhilla, a notorious criminal wanted by Haryana Police, was arrested in Cambodia in July 2025 after an Interpol Red Notice was issued in November 2024.

He was extradited to India on September 2, 2025, and taken into custody by the Haryana STF. Dhilla has been in jail since then, facing 22 criminal cases, including murder and illegal weapon possession.
