Iran President Says U.S. Must Decide War End

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated that the United States must decide when the war between the two nations will end, during an interview with Fox News on September 24, 2026.

Pezeshkian reiterated Iran's stance at the UN General Assembly, asserting that Tehran would not yield to U.S. pressure and that the two sides remain far apart on ending terms.

U.S. President Donald Trump indicated that the United States could 'annihilate' Iran if no agreement is reached, while also hinting at the possibility of a soon-to-be-negotiated deal.

Trump has provided inconsistent goals and timelines for the war, which began on February 28 when the U.S. and Israel launched attacks on Iran.

Tehran retaliated with strikes on Israel and Gulf states hosting U.S. military bases. U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran and Israeli attacks on Lebanon have caused thousands of deaths and displaced millions.

Trump has cited the weakening of Iran's nuclear capabilities as a war objective. Iran, which does not possess nuclear weapons, denies seeking them, while the U.S. is a nuclear-armed state.
