The Brief

  • Mostary scores 118 off 134 balls in second ODI.
  • She forms 195-run fourth-wicket stand with Nigar Sultana.
  • Bangladesh totals 220/6 in first innings.

Sobhana Mostary made history by scoring the first century by a Bangladesh woman against Australia in the second One Day International (ODI) at Allan Border Field. Her innings of 118 off 134 balls helped her team reach 220/6 in the first innings.

Mostary displayed composure and determination after Bangladesh struggled at 8/3 following Australia's decision to bat first. She partnered with captain Nigar Sultana to build a 195-run fourth-wicket stand, which proved crucial in stabilizing the team's position.

The partnership between Mostary and Sultana surpassed the previous highest Bangladesh women's ODI stand of 152 against Thailand. It also became the highest partnership against Australia women in ODIs, surpassing the previous record of 170 set in 2002.

Mostary's innings included 18 fours, with Sultana also contributing 74 off 114 balls. Before Mostary's 118, Sultana's highest score against Australia was an unbeaten 63 in a T20I. Schutt took four wickets in the innings, including Mostary's dismissal in the 48th over.

Bangladesh's total of 220/6 puts them in a strong position as they look to secure a win against Australia after losing the first ODI.
