Wanted Gresham suspect killed in Portland police shooting; K-9 dies

A wanted suspect was shot and killed during an arrest involving the U.S. Marshals Service Violent Offender Task Force and multiple law enforcement agencies in SE Portland.

The suspect was wanted in a homicide that occurred on Thursday morning in Gresham. Gresham Police said officers were dispatched to a home in the 17900 block of SE Market Street shortly after 7 a.m., where they found a deceased resident determined to have died by homicide.

Gresham Police identified a suspect and located him in the area of SE Pine St. and SE 99th Ave. The task force, working for the East County Major Crimes Team, encountered the suspect near SE 97th Ave. and SE Oak St. Shots were fired after the suspect attempted to flee during the arrest.

A Portland Police Bureau K-9 named Kylo was also shot and transported to two animal hospitals. Despite efforts to save him, the dog died. It is unclear whether the dog was struck by the suspect or police gunfire. A gun was recovered at the scene.

Two Portland Police members and two law enforcement officers from other agencies were involved in the incident. The two PPB officers have been placed on routine paid administrative leave. The Portland Police homicide unit is investigating the officer-involved shooting.

Authorities have not identified the suspect. Stark Street was shut down due to the investigation. The suspect’s identity remains unknown.
