Pediatric Doctor Killed, Wife Injured in Home Stabbing

Police responded to a home in Edgewood shortly after midnight and found Idris Evans and his wife with multiple stab wounds. Evans was pronounced dead at the hospital, while his wife remains in critical condition.

Detectives located Elijah Hemingway, 3, behind a nearby home with lacerations to his hand. He was taken to a hospital for treatment and is awaiting a preliminary hearing on multiple charges.

Evans’ wife told authorities she and her husband awoke to a man stabbing them with a kitchen knife. She described the suspect as 'psychotic' and said he made statements about 'God' and being 'God.'

The suspect was found in his underwear and used other objects in the bedroom as weapons. The wife and husband fought back, and she successfully alerted their children to flee to a neighbor’s house. The children were uninjured.

Evans’ wife gave the suspect her car keys and ran to a neighbor’s house for help and to call 911. Police found Evans on the floor of the third-story bedroom with severe stab wounds and blood on the floor and walls.

A large kitchen knife with suspected blood was found in the bathroom, and the back door was open with blood on the handle. An open kitchen window with blood at its base and a multi-tool were also noted at the scene.

Hemingway claimed he was invited to the home by Evans and that a physical altercation occurred. However, no bike was found at the property, and Hemingway said he was stabbed in the back during the struggle. He has no visible injuries beyond his hands.
