US Smuggling Fuel in Oman Waters, UAE Assisted: Iran Claims
Iranian officials accuse the U.S. of fuel smuggling in Omani coastal waters with UAE support.
The Brief
- Iranian Security Council Secretary Mohsen Rezaei claims the U.S. is smuggling fuel with UAE assistance.
- The U.S. uses five to six small vessels to transfer oil to larger tankers.
- Iran claims to strike these vessels nightly, and the conflict remains unresolved.
Iranian Security Council Secretary Mohsen Rezaei stated that the U.S. military has been smuggling fuel in the coastal waters of Oman with the assistance of the United Arab Emirates.
Rezaei said the U.S. uses five or six small vessels to load oil onto larger tankers.
According to Rezaei, Iran has been targeting these vessels every night.
The conflict between Iran and the U.S. has seen several escalations, including attacks on Iranian targets by the U.S. and Israel, followed by Iranian retaliatory strikes.
A memorandum of understanding was signed in mid-June to cease hostilities, but the parties soon exchanged strikes again, leaving the conflict unresolved.
The ongoing conflict has significantly disrupted shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical route for global oil and gas supplies, leading to increased fuel prices worldwide.
