A visitor reported seeing the man before the incident, describing him as happily enjoying his visit and asking a stranger to take a photo with the tiger.
Another visitor described the confusion and fear during the park’s evacuation, noting that police and emergency services were on site but did not remove anyone.
South Yorkshire police confirmed the man’s family was informed of the incident and are being supported by specialist officers, while urging against sharing online videos of the event.
