Survivor of 2024 Trump Rally Shooting Dies

James Copenhaver, a resident of Moon Township, died on Wednesday at West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh, according to the Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office. The report did not list a cause of death.

Copenhaver and David Dutch were both hospitalized with serious injuries following the July 13, 2024, shooting at the Butler Farm Show grounds, where Thomas Crooks opened fire shortly after President Donald Trump took the stage.

Copenhaver’s lawyer, Joseph Feldman, stated in a family statement that Copenhaver died surrounded by loved ones. The statement did not clarify whether his death was directly linked to the injuries sustained during the attack.

A family statement described Copenhaver as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who instilled values of hard work and integrity in his children. It noted his service in the armed forces and his deep patriotism.

President Trump posted a statement on social media calling Copenhaver 'a true American Patriot,' praising his bravery and positive spirit despite the hardships he faced.

House Republicans expressed condolences for Copenhaver’s passing, noting the impact of the shooting in Butler, Pennsylvania, and offering prayers for his family during this time.
