The Senate voted Thursday to reject a resolution aimed at preventing President Donald Trump from ordering additional military strikes on Iran.
The measure, which had passed the House in July, failed in the Senate with a vote of 49-50.
Four Republican senators, including Rand Paul of Kentucky, Susan Collins of Maine, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, and Thom Tillis of North Carolina, voted in favor of the resolution, defying Trump.
One Democratic senator, John Fetterman of Pennsylvania, voted against the measure, making him the sole Democratic opponent.
The vote comes amid growing Republican concerns about the potential for further conflict with Iran ahead of the midterm elections.
