Security expert warns Port of Dover is vulnerable to attack

Security expert Henry Bolton has warned that the Port of Dover is highly vulnerable to attack due to a lack of physical security measures. Bolton, who serves as Restore Britain’s defence spokesman, said the port is not equipped to withstand even a small-scale 'terrorist or proxy' action.

Bolton, a former soldier and police officer, stated that such an incursion could disable the port for several days or weeks, disrupting trade with Europe and affecting the entire southeast of England. He criticized the UK for being 'incredibly complacent' since the Cold War, failing to update critical infrastructure for modern threats.

Speaking to the Kent Politics Podcast, Bolton expressed concerns over the potential for a major winter escalation of hostilities by Russian leader Vladimir Putin. He compared Putin to a 'cornered animal' who is not winning the war in Ukraine but may respond with increased aggression.

Bolton emphasized the need for redundancy in the UK’s systems, suggesting that having a secondary port like Southampton could help mitigate risks. He also highlighted the absence of physical security at Dover, stating that a small attack could have a significant impact on the region.

Other nations are also preparing for potential conflict, with Germany reportedly setting up hospitals for wartime use and Lithuania updating its evacuation plans. Recent incidents, such as drones landing near Leipzig/Halle airport, have further raised concerns about the threat level.

Military intelligence officer Philip Ingram MBE acknowledged Bolton’s concerns but noted that there is existing physical security at the port, including armed police and surveillance. He suggested that contingency plans are in place to reinforce the port if necessary.
