Scott Galloway Labels Elon Musk 'Traitor' Over Starlink Access
NYU professor compares Musk to Rosenbergs after SpaceX restricted Ukraine's Starlink service.
The Brief
- Galloway accused Musk of acting as a 'traitor to the West' after restricting Starlink access in Ukraine.
- He drew a parallel to the Rosenberg espionage case and a hypothetical WWII scenario involving Lindbergh.
- Musk stated Ukraine was using Starlink for offensive purposes against service terms.
Scott Galloway, a professor at New York University and podcaster, accused Elon Musk of being a 'traitor to the West' in a recent episode of his podcast. Galloway made the claim after reports surfaced that SpaceX had restricted Star, link satellite internet speeds in Ukraine, potentially impacting Ukrainian military operations during the war with Russia.
Galloway drew a historical analogy, comparing Musk's actions to a hypothetical World War II scenario involving aviator Charles Lindbergh. He suggested that Lindbergh, who had previously supported the Axis powers, later made a controversial decision to disable critical systems during a critical moment in the war.
In the analogy, Galloway described how Lindbergh's actions led to increased German aggression and loss of life. He argued that Musk's decision to throttle Starlink access in Ukraine had a similar effect, disrupting military efforts and endangering civilians.
Galloway further claimed that the United States executed Julius and Ethel Rosenberg for espionage in the 1950s, and he suggested that Musk should be treated similarly for his actions. He argued that the current cultural emphasis on innovation and wealth has created a 'cloud cover' that allows traitors to the West to avoid accountability.
Musk responded to the allegations, stating that Ukraine was using Starlink in violation of service restrictions. He emphasized that the service is a civilian commercial product and that its use for offensive drone strikes is not permitted.
Theo Wold, a former White House deputy assistant for domestic policy during President Donald Trump’s first term, criticized Galloway's rhetoric, calling the comparison to the Rosenbergs 'ludicrous.' Wold argued that Musk is an innovator who represents the technological progress of Western civilization and that Galloway's comments reflect a partisan agenda.
