The Brief

  • Saliba not selected in France squad despite being available for Arsenal.
  • Zidane names Yoro and Jacquet as centre-back options instead of Saliba.
  • Saliba's return to action delayed until at least March 2026.

William Saliba, Arsenal's defender, has not been included in Zinedine Zidane's latest France squad. This follows his absence from competitive play since the World Cup semi-final against Spain due to a back injury.

Saliba's injury issues have allowed summer signing Ezri Konsa to partner Gabriel Magalhaes in central defense, contributing to Arsenal's lead at the top of the Premier League.

Arteta confirmed Arsenal had been in close contact with France officials regarding Saliba's fitness status. He emphasized that the final decision rested with Zidane and the French national team.

Zidane has opted for caution with Saliba's return, choosing not to select him for the upcoming international window. Instead, he has named Leny Yoro and Jeremy Jacquet as his centre-back options.

Other players called up for the final international window of 2026 include Dayot Upamecano, Ibrahima Konate, and Pierre Kalulu. Saliba's potential return to action is expected to be delayed until at least March 2026.

Saliba was named as a substitute for Arsenal's Champions League win against Slavia Prague and may be back in the matchday squad for their Premier League game against Hull City.
