Pacific Hurricane Season Active with Three Systems

Hurricane season in the Pacific is currently active, with three systems in progress: Hurricanes Polo and Odalys, and Tropical Storm Nolo. Two additional areas are under monitoring for potential development.

In the Atlantic, a high chance of development is noted near the east coast of Africa, while Tropical Storm Fay has reformed after previously dissipating. Both systems are far from land.

Nolo is expected to strengthen into a major hurricane as it approaches Hawaii by early Saturday. This could lead to life-threatening flooding and high winds in parts of the island chain.

Polo has become a major concern after rapidly intensifying on Tuesday. Its core of highest winds is expected to remain off the Pacific coast of southwest Mexico for the next few days, with potential for flooding, high surf, rip currents, and tropical storm force winds.

Polo is likely to turn toward the Baja Peninsula and southwestern Mexico next week. Residents along the southwestern Mexico coast, including the southern Baja Peninsula, are advised to monitor forecasts for Polo closely.

Odalys is not expected to threaten land, though its forecast track and latest information are shown in the map. The National Hurricane Center is also monitoring another area for possible tropical development as soon as this weekend.
