George Gordon is facing murder charges after allegedly killing his friend Delia McInerney and keeping her dismembered body in a chest freezer with five guinea pigs. The trial at Liverpool Crown Court heard that the 65-year-old allegedly murdered McInerney in early April 2023, days before she was set to move to Portugal.
Prosecutors stated that Gordon stole money from McInerney’s accounts and used her identity to take out loans and credit cards before his arrest in January 2024. The court was told that £2,000 was transferred from McInerney’s bank account to Gordon’s on April 12, the day of the alleged murder.
Gordon, who was known as Chris to McInerney and their friends, is accused of killing her on the evening of April 11 or early April 12. The trial heard that he later went to The Sefton Pub for breakfast, drinking a pint of Strongbow and a double whisky, before ordering a chest freezer from Amazon.
Gordon’s cousin, John Lawler, testified that his contact with McInerney stopped abruptly. Lawler claimed Gordon told him McInerney had moved to Australia and was living illegally, and that she had a new life with a man named Rene. Lawler described Gordon as fabricating stories about McInerney’s whereabouts.
Gordon’s niece, Paula Tillman, described the flat where McInerney’s body was found. She said the flat had a strong smell and contained animals, including guinea pigs stored in the chest freezer. Tillman also noted that McInerney’s bank cards, clothing, and art supplies were in the flat, and that Gordon often spoke about his feelings for McInerney.
Gordon, wearing a grey jumper, wiped away tears as Tillman left the courtroom. A neighbor, Taylor Johnson, testified that she saw Gordon on a bus in 2025, where he claimed McInerney had a baby with him and was pregnant with another child. Gordon denies murder and animal cruelty charges but has admitted to concealing McInerney’s body and engaging in financial fraud.
