Jordan Poole Seeks Fresh Start with Pelicans

Jordan Poole's first season with the New Orleans Pelicans was marked by limited playing time and inconsistent performance. He played in just 39 games, starting only eight, far below expectations after the Pelicans acquired him in the CJ McCollum trade.

Poole averaged 13.4 points and 3.1 assists, a significant drop from his 20.5-point season with the Washington Wizards. His championship experience with the Golden State Warriors did not translate to success in New Orleans, as the team missed the playoffs and failed to reach 30 wins for the second consecutive year.

With a new head coach, Jamahl Mosley, Poole has received a fresh start. In the first two preseason games, he averaged 11.5 points, including a 14-point performance against the Miami Heat. He shot 4 for 5 from the floor, making 3 of 4 three-pointers.

Poole expressed confidence in his ability to contribute. 'I feel good,' he said. 'I feel like I’m showing what I need to show. I’m prepared. I’m ready. I always am.' His plus/minus ratings in recent games have also been positive, indicating his impact on the court.

Mosley highlighted Poole's defensive efforts and overall contribution. 'Jordan Poole has been working his tail off defensively,' Mosley said. 'He’s doing everything that we have asked him to do, both offensively and defensively.' Poole has also adapted to Mosley's coaching style, appreciating the direction and identity the new coach brings to the team.

Poole faces the challenge of proving himself this season, especially with his $34 million contract looming. Despite trade rumors last summer, he focused on his performance. 'There is too much power in what people say on the internet now,' he said. 'All I can do is focus on what I do on the court.'
