Google Announces Googlebook Detachable Launch
Google confirms next Googlebook form factor will be detachables, with Lenovo set to debut first device.
The Brief
- Googlebook detachables will follow clamshells and convertibles as next form factor.
- Acer Googlebook 14 is the only convertible among five launch devices.
- Lenovo's detachable is expected to include keyboard, kickstand, and Glowbar.
At the Android Dev Summit 2026, Google confirmed that Googlebook detachables will be the next major form factor after clamshells and convertibles.
The announcement came during the Wednesday developer keynote, which was not unexpected given prior leaks about the device.
The initial launch includes four clamshell devices: Asus Googlebook 14, Dell XPS Googlebook, HP Googlebook 14, and Lenovo Googlebook 15.
The Acer Googlebook 14, priced at $899, is the only convertible in the lineup, offering laptop, tent, and tablet modes.
Despite its capabilities, the Googlebook OS has limitations, with the homescreen, desktop, Overview, and app tray only accessible in landscape mode.
Lenovo is expected to release the first Googlebook detachable, according to a July leak that detailed its features, including a detachable keyboard and kickstand.
The device also includes a Glowbar next to the camera and is rumored to be smaller than the current 15-inch model.
