The Brief

  • Apple unveils first touchscreen MacBook Pro with OLED display.
  • New model starts at $2,899, with higher configurations reaching $4,799.
  • Touchscreen allows direct screen interaction, but lacks Apple Pencil support.

Apple has launched its first touchscreen MacBook Pro, offering a new way to interact with the laptop. The device features a PROLED XDR display and a redesigned hinge for stability when using touch gestures.

The new model starts at $2,899 for the 14-inch version with an M5 Pro chip, while the 16-inch model begins at $3,399. Higher configurations with M5 Max processors start at $4,499 and $4,799, respectively.

The touchscreen allows users to scroll, pinch to zoom, and drag content between windows. Apple also demonstrated touch controls in creative applications like Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro, aiming to enhance user experience for professionals.

Despite the touchscreen feature, the MacBook Pro remains a traditional laptop, lacking support for Apple Pencil and the ability to fold into a tablet. Users will still rely on the keyboard and trackpad for most tasks.

The PROLED XDR display, which uses OLED technology, offers improved color accuracy, deeper blacks, and a claimed 10,000,000:1 contrast ratio. It also supports up to 120Hz refresh rates and has an antireflective coating to reduce glare.

Apple has also included performance upgrades, such as M5 Pro and M5 Max processors, up to 128GB of unified memory, and 16TB of storage. The laptop also features Dynamic Island, a 12-megapixel Center Stage camera, and Thunderbolt 5 connectivity.
