Dr. Devi Prasad Shetty, a renowned Indian cardiac surgeon and founder of Narayana Health, has been honored with France’s Chevalier de l’Ordre national du Mérite. The award recognizes his assistance to the French community in Bengaluru during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The recognition was conferred by the Consulate General of France in a ceremony held in Bengaluru on November 5. The National Order of Merit is France’s second-highest national distinction, ranking below only the Legion of Honour.

Shetty and Narayana Health were acknowledged for their support to the French Consulate and members of the French community through vaccination drives and logistical assistance during the pandemic.

In a statement, Narayana Health highlighted Shetty’s 'generosity, availability and commitment' in supporting the French community. The hospital group noted his efforts in opening doors to the French Consulate through vaccination initiatives and logistical aid.

Marc Lamy, Consul General of France in Bengaluru, praised Shetty’s actions at the ceremony, stating they reflected 'the true spirit of solidarity and the enduring friendship between France and India.'

The award underscores Shetty’s broader contributions to healthcare beyond his work in cardiac surgery and hospital management, highlighting the importance of international cooperation during the pandemic.
