The Brief

  • Paul Costes hospitalised with spleen and liver injuries following scooter accident.
  • Injuries expected to sideline him for several months, impacting Racing 92.
  • Costes joined Racing 92 this summer from Toulouse, where he played key role in 2024 Champions Cup win.

Paul Costes, a 23-year-old former France Under-20s international, was hospitalised with serious injuries after a scooter accident in Paris. The incident occurred on Thursday, with reports indicating the accident happened in wet conditions.

French media outlets La Dépêche du Midi and L'Équipe reported that Costes suffered injuries to his spleen and liver. Medical staff are expected to monitor his condition until Sunday.

The injuries are likely to keep Costes out of action for several months, marking a significant setback for both Racing 92 and the player. He joined the Parisian club this summer from Toulouse, where he had previously played.

Costes started in Racing's first two Top 14 matches but has not played since their September 12 defeat to Lyon. He had been dealing with a muscle injury, which his head coach described as a short-term issue earlier this week.

Before joining Racing, Costes played for Toulouse, where he made his senior debut in October 2022. He scored his first senior try in a 16-16 draw against Stade Français the following week.

Costes was part of Toulouse's successful 2024 Champions Cup campaign, contributing to their victory in the competition. He also helped the team win their fourth consecutive Top 14 title last season, making 14 league appearances and scoring three tries.
