Disney Confirms 'Artemis Fowl' Animated Series for Disney Plus

Disney has officially confirmed the development of a new animated series based on Eoin Colfer's 'Artemis Fowl' book series. The project was announced at the New York Comic Con during a 25 Years of Artemis Fowl panel.

The animated series will be available on Disney Channel and Disney Plus, with plans to explore the characters and lore of the original book series. Colfer will serve as an executive producer on the project.

Other executive producers include Ben Juwono and Colleen Evanson, both of whom have worked on popular Disney projects such as 'Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur' and 'Monsters at Work'.

Ayo Davis, president of Disney Kids & Family, praised the series as an opportunity to introduce new audiences to the franchise while honoring longtime fans. Colfer expressed confidence in the creative team's ability to bring the fairy world to life.

The first 'Artemis Fowl' novel was published in 2001, with 11 main books and additional short stories and companion works released since. The series has sold over 35 million copies and is available in 48 languages.

Disney previously released a live-action film adaptation of the series in 2020, which was pulled from Disney Plus due to negative reviews. A release date for the new animated series has not been announced.
