Chad Green, a former New York Yankees and Toronto Blue Jays reliever, announced his retirement in April after a decade in Major League Baseball. Green made the decision after waiting for an offer that never came, ending his professional career.

Green, 35, earned approximately $31.7 million during his MLB career, according to Spotrac. He split his time between the Yankees and Blue Jays, with his last appearance coming on July 29, 2025, against the Baltimore Orioles.

Green’s final contract with the Blue Jays was a two-year, $8.5 million deal signed in January 2023, which included a complicated and multi-layered option structure. The Blue Jays exercised a two-year, $21 million club option for 2024–2025, but later designated him for assignment.

After being released in August 2025, Green decided to retire, citing an opportunity to spend more quality time with his children. He finished his career with 43 wins, 30 losses, 29 saves, and 591 strikeouts across 492.2 innings.

Green’s MLB journey began with the Detroit Tigers in 2016, after being traded from the Yankees. He made his debut as a starter but soon found himself more suitable for a bullpen role, becoming a reliable reliever for the Yankees in 2017.

Despite a strong 2017 season, Green faced setbacks in later years, including an elbow injury that required Tommy John surgery in 2022. His performance declined in 2025, leading to his release by the Blue Jays.
