The Brief
- NPA MD Abubakar Dantsoho promotes Nigeria's maritime investment potential at World Ports Conference.
- He emphasizes Nigeria's population growth and infrastructure gaps as key investment drivers.
- Dantsoho notes the need for private investment to support port development across Africa.
Mr. Abubakar Dantsoho, Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), presented Nigeria’s maritime investment opportunities during the World Ports Conference in London.
Dantsoho stated that Nigeria, as Africa’s largest economy, is actively seeking global investment to boost its maritime sector.
He highlighted the rapid growth in Nigeria’s ports and the government’s investment-friendly policies under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Dantsoho noted Nigeria’s large population, urbanization, and infrastructure gaps as attractive opportunities for maritime and related investments.
He also mentioned that Africa’s untapped resources make it an ideal destination for port development, stressing the need for private investment to fund major projects.
Dantsoho explained that Nigeria’s population has grown from 45 million in 1960 to over 260 million today, necessitating expanded port capacity to meet demand.
He cited the Lekki Deep Sea Port, a $1.6 billion project funded by China, as an example of the need for further investment due to its current capacity limitations.
Dantsoho added that much of the cargo arriving in West Africa ends up in Nigeria due to its larger population and market size compared to neighboring countries.
