The Brief

  • CDA issued a notice directing removal of illegal constructions and encroachments from Fazlur Rehman's residence within 15 days.
  • Notice was issued to Amanullah, identified as the building's owner, and includes removal of security cabins and a generator.
  • CDA previously directed removal of encroachments from the residence on March 18, 2019.

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) issued an encroachment notice at the residence of Maulana Fazlur Rehman, chief of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), identifying illegal constructions and encroachments on its land and directing their removal within 15 days.

The notice directed the removal of security guards' cabins and a generator installed on CDA land, as well as a kitchen built within the premises, which was identified as a violation of building regulations.

CDA warned that failure to comply with the notice could result in the building being sealed or the unauthorized structures being demolished. The notice was issued to Amanullah, son of Muhammad Younis, identified as the building's owner.

Fazl's son, Maulana Asjad Mahmood, described the action as retaliatory, linking it to his father's political differences with the government. He claimed that the CDA had previously been informed about the encroachments and that no response was received.

Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry stated that the CDA’s anti-encroachment drive had been ongoing for over a year, beginning with the posh sectors of Islamabad. He emphasized that the government was taking action against illegal structures without discrimination.

Chaudhry added that the notice concerning Fazlur Rehman's residence had been issued in the name of Amanullah and that he did not know the arrangement between Fazlur Rehman and Amanullah.
