Aboutrika criticizes Maresca's use of Bouaddi after Brighton defeat
Egyptian legend questions Manchester City's tactical approach to young midfielder following loss.
The Brief
- Aboutrika criticized Maresca's decision to play Bouaddi in an advanced role.
- Bouaddi was substituted after 55 minutes in City's 1-0 defeat to Brighton.
- Bouaddi, a record signing, has yet to reach his best form under Maresca.
Former Egypt forward Mohamed Aboutrika criticized Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca for his use of teenage midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi during Saturday's Premier League match against Brighton.
Bouaddi was substituted after 55 minutes in City's 1-0 defeat to Brighton, having made his fifth start of the season across all competitions.
Aboutrika, a two-time Africa Cup of Nations winner, argued that placing Bouaddi in an advanced midfield role hinders his ability to perform in his natural holding position.
The analyst said deploying Bouaddi as a number eight or number 10 is ineffective, comparing it to using Lionel Messi in goal. He emphasized that Bouaddi's strengths lie in winning possession, distributing passes, and driving forward from deeper areas.
Bouaddi, who joined Manchester City in a record-breaking transfer last summer, has yet to reach his peak form under Maresca. In nine appearances this season, he has registered two assists but remains inconsistent.
Despite his international reputation, Bouaddi has not yet adapted to the Premier League environment, with Maresca continuing to seek a breakthrough from the young midfielder.
