The Brief

  • Larkin's trade request has led to a stalemate between the Red Wings and Wild.
  • Wild sources say they are unwilling to increase their offer due to Larkin's poor performance.
  • Flyers may act as a third-party broker to facilitate a deal.

Dylan Larkin will no longer play for the Detroit Red Wings after his trade request was made official. His agent, Pat Brisson, and interim GM Shawn Horcoff confirmed that Larkin will sit out until a trade is completed.

Larkin, 3, has a no-movement clause and has ruled out all Canadian teams, leaving the Red Wings in a difficult position to secure fair value for the 2014-first-round pick.

The Minnesota Wild have been the most active team in pursuing Larkin, with general manager Bill Guerin having prior experience with him on Team USA. However, Wild sources say they are not interested in increasing their offer.

The Wild are reportedly unwilling to trade center Danila Yurov or prospect Charlie Stramel for Larkin, as those players have not moved the Red Wings. The team is also said to be out of options and needs to win the trade to acquire Larkin.

Wild sources have emphasized that goaltender Jesper Wallstedt is not on the table for a trade, making the Wallstedt discussion a moot point. The Flyers, however, may be willing to act as a third-party broker to help facilitate a deal between the Wild and Red Wings.

The Flyers could absorb the contract of winger Yakov Trenin, who has a $3.5-million AAV and a 10-team no-trade clause, in exchange for Larkin. The Red Wings have the cap space to take on Trenin's salary, but the Flyers are open to playing a role in the trade if necessary.
