Two Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) members of the Punjab legislative assembly have resigned from their positions following the release of the party's first candidate list for the 2027 assembly elections.
Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra from Sanaur and Chetan Singh Jouramajra from Samana submitted their resignations, prompting internal political activity within the ruling party.
The resignations occurred just a day after AAP announced its initial list of 40 candidates for the upcoming elections, with Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann re-nominated from Dhuri.
Sanjeev Arora, a jailed cabinet minister, was included in the list as a candidate from Ludhiana West, while no other cabinet ministers were named in the initial list.
The AAP became the first major party to declare its candidates for the polls, following a meeting of its political affairs committee (PAC), which was held in Delhi.
Mann, a first-time MLA and two-time MP, stated that the early announcement of candidates reflects the party's confidence in its preparations and governance.
