A new film titled 'Satoshi,' focusing on the mysterious creator of Bitcoin, is set to be directed by Jason Zada. The project is backed by Tristan Thompson, a former NBA champion and tech investor.
Thompson will produce the film alongside Rick Dugdale and Dan Petrie Jr. of Enderby Entertainment. The film is among the first projects under a multi-picture deal between Enderby and Saudi Arabia’s Yellow Camel Studios.
Production is planned to begin in spring 2027, with filming set to take place in Saudi Arabia and Los Angeles. The film will be shot at JAX Film Studios in Riyadh, a state-of-the-art production complex.
The film will examine the origins of Bitcoin, which was created in 2008 as a response to the global financial crisis. It will explore how the cryptocurrency was developed as a way to bypass traditional financial institutions.
The script for 'Satoshi' was written by Cam Cannon and is being developed by Zada and Nate Atkins. Zada is also currently working on the AI hybrid horror film 'Terrarium.'
While AI will be used as a tool in the production, it is not the main focus. The film will include traditional filming methods, including on-location shoots.
The film’s logline states that it follows a troubled FBI agent and a defense attorney as they attempt to unmask Satoshi Nakamoto, the anonymous creator of Bitcoin.
Enderby Entertainment’s Rick Dugdale emphasized that the film aims to present an accurate portrayal of Bitcoin’s origins, including the culture and significance of the cryptocurrency.
Tristan Thompson highlighted the impact of Bitcoin on global finance, noting that it has sparked a movement reshaping how the world views wealth and financial power.
Brian D. Evans, a Bitcoin pioneer, stated that the film is not about unmasking Satoshi but rather about telling the correct story about Bitcoin and its creators.
