Titans Trade Simmons to Bears in Mid-Season Deal
Titans general manager confirms trade was initiated by Bears after late-night call.
The Brief
- Titans traded Jeffery Simmons to Bears in mid-season deal.
- Borgonzi said Bears called late last night and made offer.
- Simmons was surprised by trade and did not want to leave.
Jeffery Simmons was traded to the Chicago Bears by the Tennessee Titans on Thursday, according to official sources. The move came after a late-night phone call from Bears general manager Ryan Poles, who directly asked if the Titans would accept the trade offer.
Mike Borgonzi, the Titans' general manager, stated he had received multiple calls about Simmons since joining the team but had not considered a trade until Wednesday night. The Bears were the only team to present a concrete offer, according to Borgonzi.
Borg, as he is commonly known, said the decision to accept the trade was based on the team's current status and its long-term goals. After discussing the matter with Titans owner Amy Adams Strunk on Thursday morning, Borgonzi confirmed the trade and informed Simmons of the decision.
Simmons expressed surprise at the trade and did not want to leave the Titans, according to Borgonzi. However, the general manager believes the move provides Simmons with an opportunity to compete at the highest level. The Titans will now focus on using the assets acquired in the trade to improve their standing.
