A gunman killed one woman and injured four others at a Citibank campus outside Tampa, Florida, before being shot dead by a security guard, according to officials.
The suspect, seen in video exiting a gray car after crashing through a fenced area of the building, opened fire as people were eating lunch outside the site, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.
Law enforcement described the shooting as a 'targeted incident,' with officials believing the woman killed worked for a vendor at the Citibank site.
The suspect was shot after being confronted by an armed security guard and was transported to Tampa General Hospital, where he was declared dead, a chief deputy said.
The suspect drove over several medians through a grassy area before crashing into an outdoor seating area where multiple people were having lunch, according to the deputy.
The four injured individuals are receiving treatment for non-life-threatening injuries at a local hospital, and the entire building was evacuated for room-to-room sweeps by the sheriff’s department.
Citibank employees were directed to a reunification site in a nearby parking lot following the incident, with over 367 deputies responding to secure the area.
