Shane Gillis Returns to 'SNL' After 2019 Firing

Shane Gillis made his third appearance as an 'SNL' host since being fired in 2019. He opened with a meandering monologue about his weight and attempts to be unthreatening to women while hiking.

Gillis joked about the challenges of going to a public gym as a 'fat guy' in New York, describing the experience as a 'nightmare.' He mentioned encountering 'the hottest gay guys you’ve ever seen' who 'look at me, like, 'Yeah, right.'

He also made a joke about women's fashion, calling the shorts 'neon, like, artificial vape-colored' and describing the way they 'combine at the butthole.' He warned the audience not to look, as he was in the background of 'ten TikToks' at the time.

Gillis continued with jokes about his 'two big, fat-bitch sisters' and their habit of heckling him, including calling him 'bitch hips.' He also joked about his receding hairline, comparing it to 'a certain fascist leader.'

He quipped, 'I’ve balded directly into an Adolf Hitler haircut,' and noted the difficulty of giving speeches without looking like Hitler. He concluded with the line, 'You’re either gay or you’re Hitler, and isn’t that where we’re at as a country?'

Gillis, 38, has had a rocky 'SNL' journey. He was fired in September 2019 after clips from his podcast surfaced, which included anti-Asian remarks and anti-gay slurs. This came shortly after Bowen Yang, a cast member, made history as the first openly-gay Asian 'SNL' cast member.
