The Brief
- Saudi-led coalition claims interception of Houth, drone over Medina.
- Houthis deny conducting any attack on Saudi Arabia.
- Medina is a major religious site visited by millions of pilgrims.
The Saudi-led coalition announced on Friday that it had intercepted and destroyed a drone launched by Yemen's Houthis over the Medina region.
The Iran-aligned group has denied carrying out any attack against Saudi Arabia.
Medina, a city of significant religious importance, hosts one of Islam's holiest sites and attracts millions of Muslim pilgrims annually.
Cross-border attacks involving the Saudi-led coalition, which backs Yemen's internationally recognised government, and the Houthis, who control the capital Sanaa, have intensified amid the US-Israeli war on Iran, opening another front in the conflict.
The Houthis have consistently denied targeting Mecca and Medina, rejecting past accusations of drone strikes on these cities.
