Riyadh Airport Hit by Second Houthi Strike in Two Days
A Saudi airport was struck again by Houthi militants, marking the second attack in two days.
The Brief
- King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh was hit by a projectile, causing a fire and injuries.
- The attack follows a deadly strike on the same airport that killed 13 and injured 308.
- Houthis claimed responsibility and warned of continued attacks on Saudi airports.
King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh was struck by a projectile on Sunday, according to Saudi officials. A fire broke out in one of the passenger halls, resulting in injuries.
The attack occurred one day after a previous strike on the same airport killed 13 people and injured 308 others. The Houthis claimed responsibility for the second strike.
The Houthi group stated they had targeted the airport with a mix of ballistic and cruise missiles, as well as drones, in the past 24 hours. They vowed to continue attacks on Saudi infrastructure, warning that all Saudi airports except those in Mecca and Medina are potential targets.
The Houthis cited Saudi Arabia's support for Yemen's government forces and an air strike on Sanaa International Airport as reasons for their attacks. Saudi military officials reported that air defenses intercepted a missile near the airport on Sunday.
International reactions included statements from US President Donald Trump and UK Defence Secretary Wes Streeting, who suggested potential support for Saudi Arabia. The UK Foreign Office is advising against all travel to parts of Saudi Arabia, including areas within 10km (6.2 miles) of the border with Yemen.
The latest attacks mark an escalation in violence following the collapse of a temporary ceasefire between the Houthis and Saudi-led forces in July. The Saudi-led coalition called the recent strike a 'war crime.'
