The Brief
- Rays win 4-3 in 12th inning after Brewers lead late in Game 4.
- Ben Williamson delivers game-winning single off reliever Ian Seymour.
- Rays use small ball and base-running to overcome Brewers' late rally.
The Tampa Bay Rays extended their season with a dramatic 12th-inning comeback, defeating the Milwaukee Brewers 4-3 in Game 4 to avoid a sweep.
The Rays took an early lead in the second inning with an RBI double from Chandler Simpson, but the Brewers tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the fourth inning on a double from Cooper Pratt.
The Rays immediately reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the fourth thanks to a throwing error from Brewers third baseman David Hamilton, who immediately atoned with a game-tying home run in the fifth inning to knot the game at 2-2.
The game remained tied at 2-2 through extra innings as both teams exhausted their bullpens. In the 12th, the Brewers took a 3-2 lead with a home run from Pratt off reliever Ian Seymour.
The Rays responded with a rally that featured multiple singles and base-running errors, starting with Junior Caminero reaching first on a throwing error by Rays replacement third baseman Joey Ortiz. Liam Hicks advanced Caminero to third with a soft chopper.
Jonny DeLuca then drove in pinch-runner Cedric Mullins with a single, loading the bases. Simpson followed with a single to bring in the winning run, setting up Ben Williamson’s game-winning single to score pinch-runner Nick Fortes.
