Rangers Struggle with Goalie Injuries
New York Rangers face multiple goalie injuries, complicating their season start.
The Brief
- Veteran James Reimer injured during debut, considered day-to-day.
- Rookie Dylan Garand forced to play after Reimer was pulled early.
- Shesterkin and Korpisalo also sidelined, leaving depth issues.
The New York Rangers have faced multiple goalie injuries early in the 2026-27 NHL season, complicating their efforts to stabilize their netminding depth.
Veteran James Reimer, who signed with the team recently, suffered an upper-body injury during his debut against the Los Angeles Kings. He was pulled after playing only the first period.
Reimer allowed three goals on eight shot attempts, leading to a swift change in net. Rookie Dylan Garand was inserted for the second period, despite having played in eight straight games.
Garand stopped 15 of 17 shots but could not overcome an early deficit. The Rangers lost 6-3 to the Kings, highlighting their struggles without a reliable starter.
Korpisalo, the team’s No. 2 goalie, is dealing with a foot infection and may miss time. Shesterkin, the original No. 1, suffered a season-ending lower-body injury.
The Rangers’ schedule offers some relief with no back-to-back games until late November, but their overall performance has been affected by the lack of a go-to goalie.
