- Angel Apodaca accused of stabbing wife 40 times inside their home.
- Apodaca called mother claiming wife tried to stab him during argument.
- Wife found dead with toddler in bloodstained room; child is 2 years old.
Angel Apodaca, 22, is accused of killing his wife, Tania Morales Garcia, 24, inside their home in Kew Gardens Hills on Monday night. Prosecutors allege he stabbed her 40 times before holding their blood-covered 2-year-old son in his arms as police arrived.
Apodaca called his mother shortly after the incident, claiming his wife had been cheating on him and that she attempted to stab him during an argument. He then allegedly fought back with a pole, according to police sources.
Morales Garcia was found face up on the bedroom floor with multiple stab wounds to her head and body, primarily to her back. Her husband was covered in blood and holding their toddler when officers arrived, prosecutors stated.
Apodaca was charged with murder, endangering the welfare of a child, and weapon possession. He was ordered held without bail during his arraignment in Queens Criminal Court, where he cried as prosecutors detailed the crime.
Apodaca has a prior arrest record from 2018, when he was 18 and charged with robbery and assault. He was accused of beating a woman he was dating, including punching her in the face and stomach and stealing money from her.
A domestic violence report was filed in that case, as well as a previous report when Apodaca was dating another woman and police were called to intervene in an argument.
