Post-tropical cyclone Isaias is expected to bring heavy rains, potential flash flooding, and possible tornadoes across the central Appalachians and mid-Atlantic region on Sunday, Oct. 11.
The storm initially made landfall as a Category 2 hurricane near Destin, Florida, on the evening of Oct. 9, causing damage including downed trees and snapped power lines.
Authorities confirmed at least four deaths, with two reported in Alabama and two in Florida. The National Hurricane Center noted the storm is now moving northeast as a post-tropical cyclone.
The National Hurricane Center predicted heavy rain across the central Appalachians and mid-Atlantic on Sunday, with potential for isolated and urban flooding. Tornadoes are also possible in parts of Virginia and North Carolina.
Strong wind gusts are expected across the southeast, particularly near the southern Appalachians, with scattered power outages and downed trees likely. Ocean swells continue to affect the Gulf and southeastern Atlantic coasts.
Isaias broke a two-year drought of U.S. hurricane landfalls, with the previous storm being Hurricane Milton in October 2024.
