Playable F-Stop Portal Prequel Leaked Online
A nearly complete version of the canceled Portal prequel F-Stop has been leaked online.
The Brief
- A playable version of F-Stop was pieced together from leaked assets.
- The game features a camera mechanic for capturing and placing items.
- F-Stop was developed as part of Valve's Directed Design Experiments.
A playable version of the canceled Portal prequel F-Stop has been made available online by leakers. The game was assembled using assets from a large 12-terabyte leak released in August.
The leaked files did not include the game’s source code or map data, but additional pieces reportedly surfaced on the Valve Cut Content Discord this week. These final elements enabled the creation of a nearly complete version.
F-Stop incorporates a camera mechanic that allows players to capture items by taking their picture and then place them elsewhere using Polaroid-like photos. This gameplay feature is similar to the Viewfinder game, which was also developed by Valve.
The game is short, with videos showing its full campaign lasting under an hour. This is consistent with its development as part of the Directed Design Experiments, a three-month period in 2007 when Valve formed five teams to create new video game concepts.
