Peru Salon Owner Works Backstage at New York and Paris Fashion Weeks
Hairstylist Hailey Ann Bruno gained experience at major fashion events after turning down initial invitations.
The Brief
- Bruno styled models at New York and Paris fashion weeks after initially declining in 2022.
- She worked with a single brand, Ref Stockholm, and faced tight time constraints and logistical challenges.
- Bruno emphasized the importance of hair in shaping self-perception and confidence.
Hailey Ann Bruno, owner of Adler Salon in Peru, recently returned from working backstage at both New York and Paris fashion weeks, where she styled models for high-profile shows.
Bruno was initially asked to participate in the events in 2022 but declined due to lack of confidence. A later invitation via social media led her to accept the opportunity.
Working backstage presented unique challenges, including limited time per model, rationed styling tools, and varying schedules between the two cities. In Paris, call times were at 8 a.m., with shows lasting up to 14 hours, while New York involved two shows with a break at the hotel.
During her time in Paris, Bruno encountered a model in a skin-tight wedding dress who needed immediate assistance. Despite the model’s height, Bruno quickly repinned her bun and adjusted the veil while guiding her to the runway.
Bruno noted differences in the fashion scenes between the two cities, describing New York as more experimental and Paris as more refined. She worked with different agencies in each location and saw more shows in Paris.
Despite unexpected obstacles, such as mismatched hair designs and heavy crowns requiring intricate braiding, Bruno remained focused. She described the crown work as temporary and manageable within seconds.
Bruno reflected on the broader impact of hair, stating it plays a significant role in how individuals view themselves and their confidence. She also mentioned her Instagram gained attention after the fashion weeks, including a reshare by Jason Derulo.
Back at her salon, Bruno acknowledged some imposter syndrome but remains motivated to incorporate more creativity into everyday styling. She believes the experience taught her that anyone can succeed in the field with courage and determination.
Looking ahead, Bruno plans to attend Milan Fashion Week and is considering London and Dubai. Her ultimate goal is to work backstage at the Victoria’s Secret fashion show, where she continues to feel the excitement and adrenaline of the fashion industry.
