The New York City Marathon will follow a route that spans all five boroughs, starting at the Verrazzano Bridge in Staten Island and ending near Tavern on the Green in Central Park. The course will include parts of Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, and Manhattan.
Runners will begin their journey at the foot of the Verrazzano Bridge, then proceed through Fort Hamilton in Brooklyn before entering Queens via the Pulaski Bridge. The Queens leg of the race will include Long Island City and a brief stop in Manhattan across the Ed Koch-Queensboro Bridge.
After crossing into Manhattan, runners will travel north on First Avenue into the South Bronx before returning to Manhattan and heading down Fifth Avenue. The final miles of the race will border Central Park, with runners turning into it at Columbus Circle.
The marathon is expected to attract over 60,000 participants, likely surpassing the 2025 record of 59,226 finishers from 130 countries. Last year’s average finish time was four hours, 32 minutes, and 25 seconds, with Kenyan runners Hellen Obiri and Benson Kipruto winning their respective categories.
The event will close major roads and bridges, including the Verrazzano Bridge, the Queensboro Bridge, and parts of First and Fifth Avenue. Drivers are advised to follow detours or avoid driving on marathon day. Subway lines will also be affected, with changes outlined on the MTA website.
Spectators can watch the race from mile 3 to mile 26, with designated fan zones and the East Side Grandstand offering front-row seats for the final 200 meters. The marathon will also be broadcast live on ESPN2 and ESPN3, with a two-hour show on ABC Network following the finish line.
