- Volunteers needed to support the 2026 event.
Hormel Foods Corporation, in collaboration with Hy-Vee, the United Way of Mower County, and local groups, will host a drive-through turkey giveaway at the Mower County Fairgrounds on Saturday, Nov. 14.
The event will begin at 9 a.m. and continue while supplies last. Residents will receive two frozen JENNIE-O Tender & Juicy turkey breasts, totaling about 10 pounds, along with donated canned vegetables.
Participants must enter through the south gate on 8th Ave. SW, where volunteers will guide them to the pickup area and load the turkeys into their vehicles. No ID or pre-registration is required.
The company expects to distribute more than 7,000 turkey breasts during the event, with nearly 3,000 additional donations to local organizations addressing food insecurity. A similar event in Willmar will add another 3,000 turkeys, bringing the total holiday donation to 13,000 throughout greater Minnesota.
Over 200 volunteers are needed for the 2026 Hometown Turkey Takeover. Registration for volunteers is available at https://uwmower.galaxydigital.com/need/index?s=1&need_init_id=16849.
