Indian pace bowler Mohammed Shami has retired from Test cricket, ending a 13-year international career. The 36-year-old made the announcement through an emotional social media post.

Shami, who played 64 Test matches for India, took 229 wickets at an average of 27.71. His final appearance in the format was during the 2023 World Test Championship final against Australia at The Oval.

In his farewell message, Shami expressed gratitude to teammates, coaches, family, and supporters. He specifically thanked the BCCI and the Cricket Association of Bengal for their support throughout his career.

Shami made his Test debut against the West Indies in 2013 and became a key part of India’s pace attack over the years. His performances included six five-wicket hauls and crucial contributions to India’s historic 2018-19 series win in Australia.

Despite his success, injuries and fitness issues limited his availability in recent years. His retirement now officially closes his chapter in international Test cricket.

While stepping away from Tests, Shami is expected to continue playing in shorter formats. He has been named in Bengal’s squad for the 2026-27 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
