The Brief

  • Mohsen Saleh calls for Mohamed Salah to temporarily coach Egypt.
  • Hossam and Ibrahim Hassan suspended for three matches following World Cup incident.
  • Salah would lead Egypt in upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Mohsen Saleh, former head of Al-Ahly's planning committee, has proposed Mohamed Salah as the temporary head coach for Egypt's national team. Saleh made the suggestion on his official X account.

Hossam Hassan, Egypt's head coach, and his twin brother Ibrahim Hassan, the team manager, were suspended by FIFA for three matches each after the World Cup match against Argentina. The suspension follows events surrounding that game.

The brothers will miss Egypt's two Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Malawi in November 2027 and the match against Angola in March 2027. Saleh emphasized that suspended individuals are barred from being present in the dressing rooms or on the substitutes' bench during matches.

Saleh stated that Salah is the most suitable candidate for the temporary role due to his limited availability. He cited Salah's personal and technical qualities as reasons for the recommendation.

Saleh referenced examples of players who have also taken on leadership roles, including Dalglish, Gullit, Vialli, Giggs, and George Weah. He highlighted their success in combining playing with coaching responsibilities.
