Nintendo executive Shigeru Miyamoto was absent from the company’s most recent investor meeting due to a sudden illness, according to the company’s investor Q. A. transcript.
The transcript, published in Japanese and translated, states that Miyamoto’s condition is stable and that he is expected to recover within a few days to a week.
Miyamoto also did not attend a ceremony in Tokyo for recipients of Japan’s Order of Culture, including himself, as reported by The Japan Times.
Despite his absence, Miyamoto appeared in a pre-recorded Nintendo Direct on November 1 to celebrate Pikmin Day.
At 73, Miyamoto has increasingly taken on a more advisory role at Nintendo, producing games such as The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Pikmin 4.
He also contributed to Nintendo’s film projects, including The Super Mario Bros. Movie and The Legend of Zelda film, with a 'Special Thanks' credit for Star Fox this year.
