The Brief

  • New accessibility preset 'Bard's Ballad' allows players to disable item weight, durability, and herb icons.
  • Mode targets players with ADHD, cognitive fatigue, or those feeling overwhelmed.
  • Option is optional, letting players choose their preferred gameplay experience.

CD Projekt Red's director of player experience, Karolina Niewęgłowska, announced a new accessibility preset for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Remastered. The feature, called 'Bard's Ballad,' includes various toggles to adjust gameplay difficulty.

Players can disable item weight, durability, and herb icons on the mini-map, either individually or as a preset. Niewęgłowska explained the mode was designed for those struggling with concentration, including individuals with ADHD or cognitive fatigue.

The mode also considers players who may feel overwhelmed or exhausted. Niewęgłowska noted a colleague described the feature as 'a tired parent mode,' emphasizing its flexibility for anyone needing a simplified experience.

The preset aims to help players who have limited time at the end of the day. For example, it reduces the need to manage inventory and replace weapons, allowing focus on the game's story.

While the mode is optional, players who prefer the original gameplay experience can still choose that. The feature highlights developers' efforts to accommodate diverse player needs.
