The Brief
- Mendy named patron of ADE School in May 2025.
- Yakar Project began after 2015 visit to ADE School.
- Project provides free education, digital learning, and clean water.
Edouard Mendy was officially named patron of ADE School in May 2025. The school is located in Thiaroye, an underprivileged suburb of Dakar. The appointment is tied to the Yakar Project, which was inspired by a 2015 visit to the school.
The Yakar Project was established in 2020 to improve access to education, clean water, and community support. It operates through initiatives such as Yakar School in Keur Massar, where children receive free education and digital learning resources.
In March 2025, the project launched a digital learning hub at Yakar School using the PowerZ educational platform. Students gained access to tablets and computers, enabling them to explore subjects like mathematics and history through digital activities.
The Yakar Project focuses on four main areas: education, clean water, sport for development, and ChangeKeepers. It includes efforts to build sustainable water wells, provide football equipment, and support local social entrepreneurs through grants and training.
The project has built three wells and distributed 500 football jerseys. It is supported by companies including Nike, PowerZ, Pro: Direct Soccer, Afrikicks, and Revibe. These initiatives aim to strengthen communities and create opportunities across Senegal.
